One Oklahoma County deputy was killed and another was wounded when they tried to serve an eviction notice.

Veteran officers who have been with the department for more than 20 years were taken to the medical center.

He said he joined the sheriff's office in 1997. He was in the Army reserves before that.

He joined the sheriff's office to help people.

The police chase was caught on camera.

The sheriff's office said that the deputy was in stable condition.

The incident began when the sheriff's office tried to serve an eviction notice.

Two deputy sheriffs contacted an individual at the front door while they were at work. The shooting started when they went around the back door. The first deputy was shot and the second deputy tried to get that deputy out of the way of the gunfire.

The Oklahoma City Police are investigating a shooting.

The Oklahoma City Police Department said at least one deputy was able to return fire.

'This was about as routine as it gets'

The public information officer for the Oklahoma County sheriff's office said that serving papers is what these guys do.

He said that this was as routine as possible. "These people are very well trained and they do a lot of work."

Nine times out of 10 the person has already left the premises when they're served paperwork on a door. This time, that wasn't the case.

Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson III is consoled Monday as law enforcement officers gathered at OU Medical trauma center after two deputies were shot.

After the shooting, the suspect fled in a truck towing a boat and was spotted by Oklahoma City police and other agencies. The suspect drove through the city on several highways.

"During that pursuit the suspect was firing rounds at officers, and we had officers return fire at him," Littlejohn said.

After the driver exited I-40, the pursuit came to an end at the Tinker Gate. He was arrested with the help of multiple agencies. The suspect was taken to a hospital to be checked out.

The last line-of-duty shooting death in the Oklahoma County sheriff's office took place in 1935.

City, state, local leaders react to shooting

Oklahoma City police, Mayor David Holt, the Oklahoma City FBI office, and the Oklahoma State Department of Homeland Security were among the first to offer their sympathies and prayers.

Two Oklahoma County Commissioners issued statements after the incident.

The incident was called a malicious attack by the two people who were there.

Kevin Stitt said that he was thankful for the actions of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Oklahoma City police.

It was a sad day. One Oklahoma County sheriff's deputy was killed and two others were shot. We are praying for the fallen deputy and for the deputy who is still alive.
