According to posts on the company's social media accounts, the PSV2 headset is coming early in the future. Over the past several months, Sony has been releasing information about the headset, and now we have a time frame for when we can get our hands on it.
The company has yet to announce a price for the headset. It will feature displays that add up to 4K resolution and can run at 90 or 120Hz, have a 120-degree field of view, and use foveated rendering to render certain parts of the image. You can connect the headset to your console with a single cable.
When it launches, Sony says it will have about 20 major games. There are games set in the Walking Dead universe, as well as virtual reality versions of No Man's Sky.

The PSVR2 won't use a camera connected to your console to track your movements. Instead, it will use inside-out tracking, like the Quest 2, where cameras on the headset are in charge of the motion tracking. The PSVR2 will allow you to see your surroundings while you wear the headset. You will have to have a Sony HD camera in order to broadcast yourself playing a virtual reality game.
The orb-shaped controllers are similar to the Sony's dualsense controller for the PS5. Finger-touch detection can sense where you rest your thumb, index, or middle fingers without pressing anything.
Only the PS5 can be used with the PSVR2. It has been difficult to get your hands on the console since it was released in November 2020. The consoles no longer sell out immediately after Sony opens a queue for them, and you can purchase a bundle that includes the game for a few days now. By the time the headset comes out, you might just be able to pick up a PS5 whenever you want. It is possible that Sony will struggle with stock of the PS VR2, in which case the PS5's availability may be just one part of the equation for those wanting to get into virtual reality gaming.
When the PS VR2 is released, there will be stiff competition. It is not known how much the high-end headset will cost, but it will be similar to the PS VR2. The fact that Meta recently raised the price on its entry level game may not be a good sign.
The tech industry is waiting for Apple to announce its long-rumored mixed reality headset which will cost thousands of dollars. According to an Apple analyst, the headset could be revealed in January.
