A new developer is working on the remake of the video game Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic.

A person who asked not to be identified because the details are private said that one of Saber Interactive's Eastern European studios is now leading the project. A representative didn't say anything.

It is no longer possible for Aspyr to lead the project because of the transition. The game was paused as the company tried to figure out what to do next. There was a chance that Aspyr could one day return to a leadership role, but there were rumors that Saber was going to take over.

In a financial report last Thursday, Embracer said that one of its big titles, known within the industry as a triple-A game, had switched developers but did not identify the game. The studio has been moved to ensure the quality bar is where the title needs it to be. The statement referred to the Star Wars remake.

The original Knights of the Old Republic came out in 2003 and was a great success. The game allows players to create their own Jedi, wield light sabers and choose whether to follow the light or dark side of the Force.

It is rare for a game to change companies during development. Doing so can lead to big delays. The new developer needs to learn how to adapt to unfamiliar code in order to make changes to the project.

The transition is not expected to cause any delays. According to people familiar with the development of the game, it will likely take at least two more years to finish and will not have a public release date. The stock of Embracer plummeted on Monday after mediocre reviews of an upcoming game.

Some people close to the project believe this will lead to a better product.
