West Coast, best coast? During a panel at the REVOLT Summit in Los Angeles, Snoop Dogg compared TDE to Death Row Records.

The Long Beach rapper said that the independent label was a "better version" of his previous label, helmed by Suge Knight, The D.O.C. and Dr. Dre. He continued:

"And that's with no disrespect. That's with all respect. Once you look and see somebody do it the right way, then see them do it the wrong way, then you get a chance to do it your own way. Then, you're able to take the wrong out and do it the right way. That's why y'all have been able to sustain for so long."

TDE, home to Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Jay Rock and Schoolboy Q, has garnered much success under Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith, who serves as the CEO of the West Coast-based label. Dave Free and Punch are presidents of Top Dawg Entertainment.

Punch, flattered by the statement, took to Twitter to respond saying, "Snoop Dogg sat on stage in a room full of ppl and said we (TDE) are a better version of Death Row Records. Humbled."

In an interview with Vibe in 2013, Snoop said that he didn't think TDE was the new Death Row. He previously stated,

"TDE did it completely different than Death Row did it. Death Row did it with a gangsta approach. I don't feel like TDE and Death Row are the same thing in anyway... TDE, rappers. They peaceful, they love, they get down, they rappers from everywhere and they represent hip-hop. I feel like Death Row paved the way for TDE to do it in their own way, so they can stay around for 20 years from now."

Times have changed indeed, as Kendrick Lamar has scored two No. 1 hits with "Humble" and "Bad Blood" with Taylor Swift, and 8 top 10 hits, including "DNA," "All the Stars" and "Pray for Me," among others. Three records of his went on to peak at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart: DAMN, To Pimp a Butterfly and untitled unmastered.

SZA's debut studio album Ctrl received critically-acclaimed reviews, and hit an impressive spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart at No. 3. Another TDE member Schoolboy Q also accomplished a respectable feat with his album Oxymoron, which took the top placement on the Billboard 200 listing. Other honorable mentions include Blank Face LP, which peaked at No. 2, and CrasH Talk, which placed at No. 3 on the albums chart.
