A photo of a TV with Google TV

There's good news on the horizon if you've been feeling sluggish on startup. Changes have been made to the tv to make it feel faster and more responsive. The changes are relatively small, like decreasing the memory requirement for certain elements. You have to check your device to see if something has been added to it.

Changes to its TV platform were detailed in a community post by the search engine. The updates are straightforward, and include improvements to the software to make it easier to use. The company claims that it has improved navigation so that it feels more responsive when you move the remote into a tab. According to the post, you should have a better viewing experience where everything is more stable and moves a little quicker. That is good to hear, given how much of a ram hog Chrome is.

Kids should be feeling better if you use their profiles. It takes a long time to switch between the main profile and a kid's profile. I didn't set up a profile for my child because I was worried about the switch slowing down. I think I should try it again. The update should be available on your device.

Finally, free up storage on Google TV

The onboard storage limitations of the TV are well known. You don't think about it until you see it, and then you scrub the apps from the device to free up space. I don't know if I'm speaking from experience.

There is a "Free up storage" menu option in the settings. It offers options to clear your cache and help you uninstall the apps you aren't using, but it won't walk you through it like the files on the internet. You can get this feature through the settings panel. It's still being rolled out to some devices.

There are changes to how Google TV handles app installations, so you won't get as many storage related errors. It is enough of a thing that you will find posts on the matter. A process that runs in the background will help you free up space on your device.

If it had bundled in more space on the Chromecast with the TV, it would have made it easy for anyone to log in to their services with a simple plug and play device. We might see more storage in the future.

Since it is still facing a lot of competition from the likes of Apple, Roku, and Amazon, it is good to see that it is trying to improve the experience on its TV service. I have felt the slow down on the TV platform for a while now. I used to cast from my phone, but now use Amazon's Fire TV or Roku to do it. The interface still feels a bit behind on my device, so I hope these improvements roll out quickly.
