Ellen White has decided to retire from football.
He made the announcement on the social networking site.
"This decision has always been one I have wanted to make on my terms, and this is my time to say goodbye to football and watch the next generation shine."
The Lionesses won the European Championships thanks to White. She scored two goals in her last match to set a new record for her country with 52 goals.
At the World Cup, she scored six goals.
Ellen has given so much for England and we are all so proud of her. I've only worked with her for a year, but her professionalism, work rate and finishing ability are world class.
She was the perfect team player and helped the younger players find their way in international football. She was a great player, but I found a better one. She made a decision to take a new direction, but we will miss her.
White lifted the FA Cup with Manchester City in 2020 after winning the WSL and FA Cup with the same team in the previous year. She signed a two-year contract with City but won't see out her current one.
Ellen White will be remembered as a model for others to follow. The standards she sets and the way she conducts herself are not just about her record-breaking 52 goals and performances on the pitch.
It has never been about Ellen White for her, even when she was scoring crucial goals or giving everything she had, it was always the team first. She is a legend.
White's career will be recognised by the FA at a home autumn fixture.
The first game of the Women's Super League season will be on September 10th, when West Ham visit the home of the defending champion.
There is a mouth-watering match-up between the teams which finished second and third in the WSL last season.
