More than halfway through the Major League Baseball season, teams are starting to push for a chance to compete in the playoffs and a World Series title.

The New York Yankees, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the New York Mets are all locks to make the playoffs, but there are many other teams that are on the verge or looking to improve.

With the regular season set to end on October 5th, let's take a closer look at the updated American and National League figures.

The American League's standing.

There is a new format breakdown.

The number of wild-card teams will be increased from 2 to 3 in the playoffs.

The Wild Card Game has been replaced by two best-of- three Wild Card series.

The teams will be ranked according to how they areseeded.

  • No. 1 seed: Best AL/NL record
  • No. 2 seed: Second-best division winner
  • No. 3 seed: Third-best division winner
  • No. 4 seed: Best record among wild-card teams
  • No. 5 seed: Second-best record among wild-card teams
  • No. 6 seed: Third-best record among wild-card teams

The top two seeds in each league will get a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The No. 3 seed and the No. 4 seed will play each other.

The World Series formats will not change.

The No. 3 seed will play the No. 6 seed in the first game.

The Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres are the top two seeds.

The teams are in the hunt.

The Milwaukee Brewers played a game.

The San Francisco Giants lost to the San Francisco 49ers.

After the All-Star break, the Yankees appeared to be in control of the American League lead, but a post-All-Star break slump has seen the team go backwards.

The Yankees and Astros are locked into the playoffs in the American League, but the race beyond them has become very interesting, and the current picture could change by next week.

The Dodgers and Mets will likely get first-round byes in the NL, and it's hard to imagine any of the other teams losing out on a playoff spot.

As we inch closer to the regular-season finale in October, keep an eye on the Padres, Brewers, and Philadelphia.
