The price of the Full Self-Driving feature has been raised to $15,000 in North America, marking the second hike of the year.

The price of the system will go up 25% on September 5. The price was raised to that level in January.

Musk has said previously that the cost of FSD will rise as it becomes more sophisticated.

He said Sunday that the price jump would coincide with the release of the new version of the software.

Musk didn't say if the price of the subscription would go up.

When asked why it's raising the price of FSD, the company didn't reply immediately.

FSD doesn't make a fully self-sufficient car, but it does allow the car to change lanes and park autonomously. Drivers are told to keep their hands on the wheel all the time.

As the software gets closer to full self-driving capability, the price of FSD will rise, according to Musk.

The price of its cheapest car has gone up by $10,000 over the course of the next two years. The auto industry has seen prices rise due to a computer chip shortage and more expensive raw materials.

Regulators are interested in the subject of self-driving tech fromTesla. In June, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it was expanding its probe into the Autopilot driver-assistance function, a suite of features which can include FSD if customers pay extra.

The NHTSA is looking into reports from over 750 drivers who said their cars suddenly slammed on the brakes.
