Dennis Allen, the head coach of the New Orleans Saints, told reporters that wide receiver Michael Thomas is dealing with a injury.
Thomas hasn't appeared in either of the team's first two preseason games, and his status for the team's preseason finale against the Los Angeles Clippers is unknown.
Thomas missed a lot of games because of an injury.
In the first week of the 2020 campaign, the 29-year-old suffered an ankle issue and appeared in just seven games. He didn't play in a game that year because he had surgery on his ankle later than the Saints wanted.
Ian Rapoport reported that the team was optimistic that Thomas would be medically cleared in time for training camp.
Before his ankle injury, he was one of the best receivers in the league. He had 149 catches for 1,725 yards and nine touchdown in 16 games. He had at least 1,100 receiving yards in four of the last five seasons.
Thomas will need to stay healthy in order for the Saints to compete in a tough division in the future. New Orleans should be able to remain competitive after drafting Chris Olave and signing a player in the free agent market.
