According to a new poll, the growing threat to democracy is the most important issue facing the country, with strong support for continued investigations into the actions of former President Donald Trump.

According to an NBC News poll conducted earlier this month and released Sunday, more than 50% of respondents agree that investigations into possible wrongdoing by Trump should continue. Only 21% of Republicans were included in that.

A majority of those surveyed said that Trump was solely or mainly responsible for the Capitol insurrection.

Threats to democracy rose to the top of the list. Cost of living was the top concern, while threats to democracy did not make the cut.

When asked if things will get better or worse over the next five years, 34% of respondents said they would get worse. America's best years are behind it, according to a majority of people.

The number of people who think the US is in a recession has fallen.

President Joe Biden had an approval rating of 42%, but only 42% of people said they had a good opinion of him.

34% of those who took part in the poll said they had little or no confidence in the FBI, compared to 26% who said that in December. 39% of people said they had a lot of confidence in the FBI, on par with previous polls. 34% of respondents have little or no confidence in the Supreme Court, compared to 18% who said that in December.

The poll had a small margin of error.
