It's not necessary to have a fancy security system when you can just call General GM.

A would-be car thief might be asking himself that today, after he tried to outrun a patrol car only to have GM remotely bring the stolen car to a stop, allowing a deputy to walk up and make the arrest. The company turned on the vehicle's flashers to make sure it wouldn't get hit by another vehicle.

According to a news release from the sheriff's office, they were notified Saturday night that GM was following a car that had been reported stolen. A deputy followed the car after it was found. The driver ran after the deputy.

It's history. The sheriff's dispatch told GM. They were able to pull the plug.

The man found dead on the street was identified as Brandon Johnson.

The car that was stolen was stopped near I-41 and Military Road. The driver of the vehicle was arrested without incident.

The driver is expected to be charged with fleeing or eluding an officer and operating a vehicle without the owner's permission.
