Scientists have found out how big an ancient shark was. It is mind blowing. You've probably heard of the meg, but it could have eaten on orcas. That's according to a new study that made a 3D model of the shark using a well-preserved fossil.
The researchers concluded that the megalodon was the unquestioned leader of the entire ocean.
The researchers estimated that an adult O. megalodon could consume prey the size of modern apex predators and cruise at fast speeds.
It's hard to understand how big the megalodon was. It's believed that the shark could've swallowed a large white in one bite. The researchers think the megalodon was 20 meters long. That shark is close to the size of an eighteen-wheeler. One of the researchers wrote that it could eat the largest killer whale in less than a minute.
The megalodon, which has remained somewhat of a mystery to scientists, was an important step forward in the research. Fossils are rare because their bodies were mostly made of cartilaginous. We now have a better idea of the size of the ancient animals.
