Dennis Rodman, a former NBA player, is going to Russia this week to help in the release of a female basketball player.

Rodman said he was given permission to go to Russia to help the girl. I'm going this week.

She was arrested at a Moscow airport in February for carrying cannabis oil in her luggage.

Her arrest caused an international uproar and prompted The White House to consider options. Russia has not responded to the US proposal to swap prisoners.

The inclusion of the e-liquid in her luggage was accidental, as she forgot to take them out of her bags, according to Insider.

This isn't the first time that Rodman has tried to engage in diplomacy. He's been to North Korea a number of times over the past 10 years. Rodman said he can build a relationship with the Russian president.

He said that he knows Putin well.
