The Green Bay Packers had David Bakhtiari back on the practice field on Sunday after he came back from a torn kneeACL.
The All-Pro left tackle has undergone three surgeries on his knee and only played 27 snaps in the final game of the regular season.
After being removed from the physically unable to perform list, Bakhtiari would be allowed to return to practice.
LaFleur offered no promise of a return date and said that the availability for the Minnesota Vikings opener has not been determined. The Packers have made him eligible to play after he was removed from the PUP list. He would have been out for at least four weeks if he hadn't been placed on the PUP list.
He is only going to do individual drills. You can temper the expectations because I know there will be a lot of questions. It won't be a big deal. We are excited to see him on the grass. It will be one day at a time.
After the Lions game, he was shut down for the playoffs for the second year in a row. The second surgery was done to reduce swelling in the knee after the first one. There was no explanation for the third surgery.
"He's been making good progress, and mentally, I think he's in a very good place as well." "He's worked his tail off for a long time now, and so, just as far as making the decision, I got a text a few days ago that he was coming off, so I was pretty excited about that."
The Packers' offensive line was uncertain at times. Most of the left tackle work has been taken by Yosh Nijman. The line could be solidified by the return of Elgton Jenkins and the return of Bakhtiari. A Pro Bowl selection at left guard in 2020, he tore his left knee in November and missed the rest of the season. The right tackle has been drilled in individual and jog-through work since he returned to work. He did not do a lot of work last week.
The Packers went back to work on Sunday after an off day. Most of the players who did not play in the first two preseason games will not play in the exhibition finale. All the healthy and available players will be in uniform for the game against the Chiefs, according to LaFleur.
"I see benefits on both sides, but I also see some things that you'd be kicking yourself if something went wrong in a game, but a game that doesn't count on your record." Going through the mental preparation of getting yourself ready for a game is a good way to do that. It's just going out there and having fun. I want to see where we are and then make a decision.
