I have good news and bad news for parents who want to know who their children are talking to on their phones. The good news is that a prominent social media app recently made changes that allow parents and guardians to access more data on children who are 13 to 17 years old. The good news is that you have to use the app.

Once you have set up your account with your children, you will be able to see the child's friend list, as well as report potential abuse. The family center doesn't allow you to look at the messages. The exact time your teen messaged someone during the past week isn't provided by the new feature.

It's not as flashy as the company's recently nixed flying selfie camera, but the family center is a worthwhile safety feature. There is a balance to be found between tracking your kids for safety reasons and accidentally cultivating a homespun state.

The family center can be used.

If you want to use the family center, you will have to downloadSnapchat on your phone. If you don't already have an account, you can sign up after it's downloaded. You can either allow or decline the request to access the contact list on your mobile device. Enter your full name and choose sign up and accept. You can input your date of birth.

On the next page, you'll be able to get a usernames. If you want to change my name, you must choose to do so. If you want to finish the sign-up process, you need to enter a password and phone number. The Skip button is located in the top right corner of the app.

You now have a account on the photo messaging service. You can add your child as a friend by exchanging usernames or snaps. Before you can bring your child to the family center, you need to connect with each other. Look for your profile icon in the top left corner of the app's home screen once you're done setting up the family center. You can scroll down until you see a Privacy Controls section.

The family center control panel is located here. If you want to give your teen the chance to join your family, you can tap on their name and give them the chance by selecting Send Invitation. The link to sign up for the family member's invite is sent on the ephemeral messaging service.

Once the family center is activated, you will be able to see a list of your teen's friends on Snapchat and the last time they messaged a user throughout the week. You won't be able to see the child's communication with users or saved photos. Users who are 18 and over are not eligible for tracking because the feature is designed for minor users.
