The Vikings and the NFL would give refunds to everyone who attended the game if they were capable of embarrassment.
The Vikings released a list of players who wouldn't play before the game. Everyone on that list you might want to check out.
Imagine buying a ticket for the Rolling Stones and having Mick Jagger andKeith Richards stay behind the curtain while the winners of a karaoke contest perform. If you're willing to believe that the NFL cares about entertaining you in August, then they're selling you that.
The Vikings were scheduled to sit out against the 49ers.
The questions are why and when.
There are three games.
Preseason games are a joke among players, executives, coaches, fans and broadcasters. The reduction of the preseason from four to three did not solve the problem because it reminded us that we are not missing anything in the fourth game.
When will the NFL make more money by trading a preseason game for an 18th game?
Even if a schedule that includes two preseason games and 18 regular-season games presents its own problems, this is where this is headed.
Two preseason games is still too much. playoff teams will be damaged by injuries from regular season games.
What is the best schedule for the players and fans?
This week the 49ers and Vikings practiced together.
There is a way to reduce the risk of playing an 18-game schedule. It's not a new idea, but it's the right one: schedule two bye weeks for recovery, and legislate that every player must miss at least one game, no matter what.
Every player would have at least three weeks of rest during a 20 week period. That is a good deal for the players.
There will be two preseason games.
In the preseason games in 2022, what is done? Many of the coaches' key players are resting. They want to see their offensive and defensive lines play in live conditions, they want to test reserve or inexperienced quarterbacks, and they want to hold an open competition for the bottom of the roster.
In a single game, they can do all of that.
They can play their starters for a short period of time.
They can schedule joint practices if they want to see more work from their starter.
There is a difference between preseason games and joint practices. The league schedules the games. The teams schedule joint practices so that the coaches work against each other.
A defensive end trying to prove himself in a preseason game could end the Vikings chances of competing. Football players are used to avoiding hitting quarterbacks in practice, and their coaching staff is on the field to keep an eye on them.
On Tuesday, at the teams' first joint practice, Cousins worked with a true first-team offense that included Dalvin Cook and others. It is not possible to see that combination in a preseason game.
Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell doesn't want his players to get injured. The reward was watching Kellen Mond throw awful passes against a third-team defense, as the risk-reward ratio is heavily weighted toward risk.
If you're going to put a product on the field, stop charging people good money. A single preseason game would suffice.
