Young adults have been paid $100,000 by Peter Thiel to drop out of college and start their own companies for over a decade.
The Thiel fellowship program was founded by the renowned Silicon Valley investor and former Trump advisor.
Helping young people see their ideas funded and realized with access to coaching from noted CEOs and other entrepreneurs, without the burden of attending classes in a university setting was the idea. Not all of the fellows return to school after the program.
The likes of Vitalkin Buterin, Adobe rival Figma, and others saw the light of day thanks to Thiel, who has been open about his stance on higher education being overblown.
"For some people, it's still worth it, even if you don't get a degree," he said. A lot of graduates can't find good jobs, they're saddled with debt and have to move back home with their parents. Something has gone wrong and people are starting to see it.
