Several sets of human remains have been found as the lake has dipped to record low levels.

All of them have been seen at all times of the day in three parts of the western corner of the lake.

There is a lot of mystery surrounding them. The manner and cause of death in at least one of the cases are not known.

Michael Green is a professor of history at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The chances are not great.

It was the most frightening find. The National Park Service said in a news release that human remains were found in a barrel in Hemenway Harbor.

It is the last boat launch to remain open as water levels fall. The 270 square-mile lake, which straddles the Nevada-Arizona border, has a 27% capacity.

The dip has seen sunken boats and riversmineralize.

The barrel was found in the mud along a shoreline that looked like it had been submerged.

The person inside the 50-gallon drum was thought to have died from a gunshot wound in the 1970s or '80s based on the person's clothes and shoes.

The killing bears the hallmarks of a mob execution according to some local experts.

According to the vice president of The Mob Museum, a barrel has a signature of a mob hit. A person in a barrel. They would put it in the water.

At 2 p.m., a person at the park reported finding remains on the northwestern side of the lake.

The agency said the remains were skeletons. Dan Kulin said in an email that they were from a man in his twenties or thirties.

Kulin said the coroner's office was working to identify the man and the other remains through DNA analysis, but warned that the sample quality could be compromised by environmental conditions and time.

He said that officials were looking at information about park visitors who have been reported missing.

Some of the remains may belong to people who drowned at the recreation area. According to data obtained through a public records request, over 100 people drowned at the lake between 2007 and last year, more than any other cause of death.

The National Park Service didn't reply to questions.

There were three discoveries within two months. A popular stretch of shoreline known for swimming, boating and picnicking was the site of human remains discovered by park visitors.

Kulin said the remains were partial.

The coroner's office is trying to determine if the two discoveries are related to one another.

After watching a police dive team from Las Vegas search the lake's waters, a local fisherman, Freddy Ramos, said that he was thinking of giving up on the lake.

He told the station that he didn't have any fish and that there were bodies everywhere he went.

Skeletal remains were found at the same beach nine days later. A park official contacted the coroner's officer after a visitor found the remains in the water.

The remains were found in the water.

There was a gun located near where the body was found in the barrel.

Police in Las Vegas said a journalist found a weapon. The gun was found at the lake, but it wasn't clear if it was related to the remains found on May 1.
