Smith was on the field for the first time during training camp after ending his hold-in.

Smith said he plans to play out the last year of his contract, which will pay him $9.7 million on his fifth year, and that negotiations are over right now.

Smith said that contract talks between himself and the Bears were distasteful. "Wasn't what I anticipated, nor did I like what I expected, but I'm grateful for the fans, all the loyal fans and everyone, the players as well in the locker room and the city of Chicago that stood behind me throughout this process." It's a big deal to me.

I'm shifting my focus to the season and focusing on being the best teammate I can be to those guys in the locker room.

On August 9th, Smith demanded a trade after accusing the Bears of not negotiating in good faith. Smith was put on the PUP list immediately after reporting to training camp.

Smith says he has not been fined by the Bears for the practices he skipped after he was removed from the physically unable to perform list.

Two days after their win at Seattle, the Bears held a non-padded practice. Smith stretched and worked with Chicago's linebackers. He didn't take part in the team portion of practice and is in a ramp-up period according to Matt Eberflus.
