Matt Rhule, the head coach of the Carolina Panthers, told reporters Saturday that Matt Corral will likely be out of action for at least the next two seasons.

After limping off the field after two series in the fourth quarter, PJ Walker was brought in to replace him.

Corral completed 9 of 15 passes and ran for six yards on three occasions. He was going to play in the second and fourth quarter.

Corral was drafted in the third round of the April draft. He had an outstanding season for the Rebels, completing 67.9% of his passes for 3,349 yards and 20 touchdown against five turnovers and rushing for 614 yards and 11 scores.

It was not expected that Corral would start for the team. The franchise has a backup quarterback in Sam Darnold, who was acquired from the ClevelandBrowns in July.

He could be the quarterback of the future. With Baker Mayfield set to become a free agent after this season, Sam Darnold hasn't done much to show he can be the guy.

According to The Athletic's Jeff Howe and Joseph Person, the team's Week 1 starter will be Baker Mayfield. They have been participating in a competition.
