Hodgkinson won the gold medal in the women's 800m at the European Championships.

With 200m left in the race, Hodgkinson moved to the front and won in one minute 59.06 seconds.

It is the second European title for Hodgkinson, who won indoor 800m gold as a teenager.

The men's 4x400m relay team won gold for Britain.

The men's quartet triumphed in 2:59.35 after legs by 400m champion Matt Hudson- Smith, Charles Dobson, and Lewis Davey.

The women's team finished behind the Netherlands and Poland to make the podium.

Reekie was the only athlete who could follow Hodgkinson in the closing stages, however she faded out of contention as France's Renelle Lamote took silver.

Reekie finished fifth in a time of 2:00.31, with Alex Bell sixth in a time of 2:00.68.

As she crossed the finish line, Hodgkinson pointed to the sky and said, "I was very happy to come here and finally get on top of the podium."

The team around me has aided me all season. We made it to the end with a gold and two silvers, so I'm happy.

She said her desire for gold has driven her after each title.

She said she tried to get that gold. It's just about forgetting and moving on. I'm happy that I can go home with three medals.

I still have a world indoor medal that I don't have yet, so we're going to try and get some golds." There's still a long way to go.

Ambitious Hodgkinson 'wants to be a legend'

Keely Hodgkinson
Keely Hodgkinson holds both the women's indoor and outdoor British 800m records

At the World Championships in Eugene in July, Hodgkinson lost out to Mu by 0.08 seconds, but she was denied the gold medal by Mary Moraa at the Commonwealth Games.

They are the only two athletes to have beaten the British over the two-lap race this year.

Reekie, who was beaten to Olympic bronze by 0.09 seconds last summer, suffered after trying to follow Hodgkinson, who pulled away down the home straight.

The Wigan athlete broke the British record as she won Olympic silver in Tokyo in a breakthrough 2021, a year that also saw her claim the British and Diamond League 800m titles

She produced a British indoor record and the fastest indoor 800m performance by a woman in 20 years at the Muller Indoor Grand Prix.

Hodgkinson had to withdraw from the World Athletics Indoor Championships due to a quad injury.

After an exhausting summer delivering the gold she desperately wanted, she has responded with three excellent performances.

The silver medal winner from 2010 was watching from the studio.

"I'm so happy for her," said the woman. She'sambitious." She would like to be a legend of the sport. She wants to win every single thing. She has time to do that at a young age.

This is her time." She knows how sports can change quickly. Moraa came through when she got injured at the Commonwealths. She's going to take every chance she gets.

'Everyone in this team has a story' - relay joy for GB

As Britain's men's quartet finished in the third and final automatic qualification place in their heat on Friday, they were joined by the 400m bronze medal winner Haydock-Wilson and the other two.

Bolstered by the inclusion of individual champion Hudson-Smith and 22-year-old Dobson, the men's team led from start to finish, with Haydock-Wilson measuring his effort to make sure he had enough left to seal victory.

Hudson- Smith said: "This one feels a lot better and a lot sweeter because we have a team." This is absolutely incredible.

He struggled with his mental health as he battled with debt and injury.

Hudson- Smith said that he wouldn't be here without the support system. He said he has the future next to him. We are here to take over after the four-by-four boys.

This is not the end of the team, said Haydock-Wilson. We love each other and everyone in this team has a story.

"What Matt has come back from over the last four years, Charlie with injuries, Lewis who has been coaching himself, we all have something to fight for."

In July, Ohuruogu and Yeargin were part of the British team that won a world bronze medal.

The team of Femke Bol, Natalia Kaczmarek, and Yeargin finished under a second off the gold medal with a time of 3:21.74.
