Michigan GOP governor nominee Dixon picks running mate

Michigan's capital city is called "Lansing." The Republican candidate for governor chose a former state lawmaker as her running mate.

When he ran for the U.S. House, he ended up losing. He was the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee.

The lieutenant governor will help to improve our schools, create safer communities and improve our economy.

I believe that our vision is the right one for Michigan and that we will defeat her and begin to repair the damage she has done to our families, students, and business owners.

One hour before the deadline, she announced her choice. The delegates will vote on her pick at the convention.

Garlin Gilchrist II is the Lieutenant Governor. There is a general election in November.

John Sellek, a Republican political strategist, said the selection of Hernandez appears to be a solid pick of someone with a deep knowledge of the state budget and GOP street cred.
