According to a report from Insider, DoorDash is calling off its partnership with Walmart, which used to deliver groceries and other goods from the retail chain to customers for over four years. According to a source close to the situation, DoorDash told Walmart that it wanted to focus on its long-term customer relationships.

The partnership between Walmart and DoorDash will end in September, according to reports. Walmart and DoorDash formed a partnership in order to test the delivery of groceries on walmart.com It started in Atlanta, Georgia, but has since spread to other states.

Walmart has been busy building out its own delivery service platform

It was no surprise that DoorDash was dropped as a delivery partner. Walmart has been busy building out its own delivery service platform, which hands off grocery deliveries to it's own database of gig workers, similar to the way ride hailing companies operate. 84 percent of households in the US are covered by Walmart's delivery and services, according to the retailer. Walmart announced last year that it is working on a white label delivery service, called GoLocal, to handle last mile logistics and deliveries for other businesses.

DoorDash has forged a new partnership with Facebook, even though it is no longer working with Walmart. If the item is small enough to fit in the trunk of a car, the service will pick it up and deliver it. Same-day delivery is offered by stores like Bed Bath & Beyond.
