Western officials told journalists that the attacks on the peninsula are having a psychological and operational impact on the Russian military.

In the last few weeks, there have been a number of audacious strikes on the peninsula, including an explosion at the air base, as well as a number of alleged drone attacks.

On Saturday, footage appeared to show smoke billowing from a fresh attack on Russia's Black Sea fleet headquarters.

Ukrainian officials have implied responsibility for many of the attacks. The New York Times quoted an unnamed Ukrainian official as saying that a military unit behind enemy lines was behind the blasts.

Insider reported that the attacks could be the work of Ukrainians who have trained with the US.

More than half of Russia's naval jets are out of action as a result of the strikes, according to the Western officials who spoke to the media.

The Moskva, one of the warships in the fleet, was sunk by the Ukrainian navy in April.

The fleet has adopted a defensive posture due to the setbacks.

Russian state media reported that Sokolov told officers they would get 12 new vessels.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wants the war to end with the liberation of the peninsula.

According to the president, "Crimea is Ukrainian, and we will never give it up."
