Dundee Utd v St Mirren
Curtis Main scored on the break either side of the interval

The dreadful start to the season continued for Dundee United after they were thrashed by St Mirren.

Jack Ross' side have lost three of their first four games after an opening day draw and a European humiliation.

Stephen Robinson's side moved up into the top half of the division thanks to Alex Greive's late strike.

14 United have conceded in their past three matches, with only goal difference keeping them off the bottom of the division

  • Reaction & as it happened

They didn't look like they were getting back on track against St Mirren.

After 90 seconds, the Paisley side should have taken the lead with a close-range headed goal by Jonah Ayunga, but his volley was turned away.

The best moment for United was a dipping Glenn Middleton free- kick that was tipped over the bar. The high was followed by more concessions.

Mark O'Hara's through ball went through the legs of Charlie Mulgrew and gave Main a free run at goal. The man side-footed into the net.

Main's second, on the other side of the interval, was the same as his first.

O'Hara went through Ayunga on the edge of the area. Main was found in the space in the box who lashed it home.

As they tried to respond, United changed shape and personnel, but all they could do was a tame effort.

Instead, it was the other way around. Greive slid his shot under the stranded Finn after getting a pass from the United half.

Time for United concern? - analysis

There were four games and no wins. It's time for United to worry.

Mark Birighitti was dropped by Ross after a couple of shaky performances.

In their last two domestic games, United have conceded seven goals and they look blunt in attack. Tony Watt was not known. The creator lasted until the half-time break.

It looks like the season started last weekend for St. Mirren. They responded with two excellent performances and took all six points in the process.

Main needs to maintain his goal scoring touch from this afternoon as well.

What they said

Jack Ross said that that was way, way, way below acceptable. That's the biggest thing about it.

We didn't do anything that was close to winning. It was not good enough in all aspects of play, so we deserved all the criticism that will follow.

Stephen Robinson said that they were very disciplined without the ball and that was the key to not allowing goals.

I think we have been in all four games. We can't get carried away, it's a great result and a good performance, but we need to build on it.

What's next

It doesn't get any easier for United, who will host Celtic on Sunday, August 28th.
