Most of my porch is covered by the 150 degree view. The Eufy Video Doorbell dual is the only alternative that doesn't have the same problem as the one below the doorbell. There is a noticeable fish-eye effect that makes you feel like you are looking through a peephole. I like that I can zoom in, but there is something wrong with the video.
You can have a two-way conversation with some lag, but the audio is good enough to give you an idea of what's happening. It sounds tinny and distorted. It would be great to be able to record custom responses in your own voice, but I like the quick responses.
It's smart performance.
I have been testing the Wyze Video Doorbell Pro and have found it to be accurate and responsive. It never missed a visitor, the chime went off immediately when I pressed the button, and the alert went through to my phone quickly. When I was away from home, there was some lag but the signal strength was a factor.
The live view takes between 3 and 5 seconds to load. The clear timelines show events as blocks. If you have a good internet connection, you can watch video in the cloud. A detection zone can be created to reduce false positives.
You can choose when to receive notifications with a cam Plus subscription. The smart detection artificial intelligence can determine if a person, pet, vehicle, package, or combination is at your door, and video events have relevant icons. There's support for both of those things. The doorbell feed was easy to load on the nest hub.
There is a catch.
One month of cam plus is free with the doorbell There is a limit on the amount of time a video can take. There is no local storage option for cloud storage. It also allows for smart detection. Any motion will send an alert if you don't have a subscription The limits on the camera are a deal-breaker for me if I don't have a subscription. If you pay for a year up front, it only costs $2 per month.
The battery life is one of the questions with the Wyze Video Doorbell Pro. Wyze says up to six months, but my tests suggest six weeks. I have set my porch to the highest quality with no cooldown and up to 30 seconds for recordings so your mileage may vary. The doorbell needs to be removed to charge it. It's better to wire it in if you can.
Wyze has a poor attitude towards security and software updates. The company did not fix the bug for three years. It would have required a local network violation. Wyze has stated that it won't share footage without a warrant or court order.
Wyze discontinued support for the first version of the Wyze cam less than five years after it was released. Wyze has beefed up its security team since this happened, but it may give you pause.
The brand is all about value. The Video Doorbell Pro can be found at $94 plus shipping and has an impressive range of features. For people on a strict budget, I don't see a better option right now.
