The Yankees are close to getting one of their big hitters back in the lineup.

The manager told reporters that if all goes well, the outfielder will go on a rehabilitation assignment with the Double-A team on Saturday and Sunday.

In a live batting practice on Tuesday, he will face Luis Severino.

The 60-day injured list designates him for a mid-September return after he was injured on July 14. Prior to his injury, Severino had a strong season in which he posted a 3.45 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 16 games.

He said he was prepared to face live hitters.

"I don't think I'm coming from a serious injury," he said. I'm feeling good. The arm feels good.

He didn't commit to giving consistent playing time to the player. When asked if he thought Hicks was a starter, he didn't say anything.

"Not today, but we have talked about how baseball can change things in a heartbeat." One big play, one big opportunity, and all of a sudden you're in there and you've run with things.

His August has been particularly bad, with five hits in 43 at-bats and 15 strikeouts, as he has struggled all season long.

At some point, they'll be on the bench. We're trying to do all we can to win ballgames and he needs to find a way to be a part of that as well.
