After losing quarterback Deshaun Watson to an 11-game suspension, the Cleveland Browns continue to insist that they are "comforted" and "confidence" in Jacoby Brissett as their starter.
He is excited to have the chance to start again. He doesn't think lightly.
"I have to prove that every day," he said.
The National Football League and the National Football League Players Association reached a settlement with more than two dozen women who said they had been victims of sexual harassment at the hands of the player. He will be suspended before the season starts.
The reps with the first-team offense were given to Brissett earlier in the week in order to prepare for the suspension.
Kevin said that they have a lot of trust in Jacoby. The players have trust in him.
When training camp began, it was said that Brissett would be the starter. In the face of uncertainty at the position, he has been impressed with the leadership of the man.
"Just the phone calls that I made to people who he has played for and people who he has played with, it was very, very consistent that you're getting a pro's pro, somebody who is going."
Before Friday's joint-practice with the Philadelphia Eagles, Brissett was asked about the team publicly supporting him, even as rumors continue to swirl that Cleveland may explore the possibility of trading for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
"Just continue to be the man that I am, the player that I am, the teammate that I am, and that's what I'm going to do," he said. All of that will take care of itself.
On Thursday, Andrew Berry praised his backup quarterback, but wouldn't say if he would be the starter for 11 games.
Berry said that they feel good about the man. We will evaluate our team over the course of the camp, but we are really pleased with Jacoby.
