Atlanta Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna was arrested on a drunk driving charge.
Ozuna was booked into the county jail at 4:30 a.m. after he was arrested by the police. It was Friday. He was charged with an unsafe lane change and also with drunk driving. He was released from jail at 8 am.
Ozuna, who is in the second year of a $65 million, four-year contract with the Braves, has not played since Sunday as the two-time All- Star selection has fallen in platoon roles at both the designated hitter and left field positions. He's batting.214 with 20 home runs.
Ozuna was charged with assault by strangulation and battery after police said they saw him attacking his wife. He was put on leave by Major League Baseball and missed the World Series.
He apologized to his teammates and fans in May after he was allowed to return to the Braves.
In order to have the charges dropped, Ozuna had to go through a diversion program, complete a family violence intervention program, and take an anger management course.
