Whether you followed her rise to stardom as a young comedy actor or not, she has defiantly overcame the many hardships put in her path over the years and is now so deservingly getting the last laugh. Her candid, new memoir with its eye-catching title I'm Glad My Mom died quickly sold-out on Amazon and has become one of the most talked about topics in the entertainment world. It was announced this week that her book became a New York Times best seller.

She tells me that it feels incredible and overwhelming. When I found out, I screamed.

In I'm Glad My Mom died, Marguerite shares her cautionary tale of child stardom, including her early years of manipulation by the hands and guidance of her late mother. McCurdy talks about her eating disorders, her struggles with mental health and the inappropriate behavior she says she experienced during her time on Nickelodeon, where she starred on kid-friendly shows like i Carly and Sam and Cat.

The response that people have had is touching to me. They will often tell me about their lives. A long hug is usually the thing. They'll cry sometimes. We laugh together sometimes. They will tell me that they were told to set a boundary with their relationship in order to keep it healthy. It feels like there is a level of connection that I have never experienced before. I hope it's that way for them as well.

Being no longer silent and taking on the world on her own terms, I asked McCurdy what ways her mindset and approach to both business and life has changed since she first appeared on television.

That is a great question. Whether in life or business, my number one priority is to support my mental health and then if it gets passed that, I feel like it's such a 'buzz' word and it can maybe seem 'glip', but I really try to run things. Is it necessary for me to be doing this? I only do things that I think are right for me.

With a hit memoir under her belt and continuing to have a lot of the world's attention with her bold stories, I wondered what she would like to do next.

I would love to do more writing. I am currently working on a novel and a collection of essays and they have been very satisfying for me. I would love to keep going that way. Directing is something I love to do. I enjoy working with people. If there is an opportunity, I would love to direct more.

She celebrated her 30th birthday back in June. Entering a new decade out of her mother's shadow, I asked McCurdy what she hopes her thirties will bring to her overall outlook and wellbeing.

The twenties were quite the unexpected roller coaster for me, so I hope to take that with me. I have a lot of self-confidence that I didn't have before and I hope to carry that with me. There are a lot of question marks but I am very excited and optimistic about the future and I trust that whatever manifest will be the right thing.

She dedicates her book to her three older brothers, Marcus,Dustin and Scottie, because she says she loves and appreciates them so much.

I wondered what message McCurdy had for her loyal fans and the supportive readers of her memoir as we ended our conversation.

People seem to be connecting with the book. I don't think I could have predicted it would be so popular. In the best way, it's overwhelming. It is unfortunate if people relate to some of the more difficult parts of the book. I hope that we can all laugh at the same time. I am happy that people seem to be having fun with the tragedy and hopefully being able to heal through that.

After many years of quietly struggling while putting on a happy face for the cameras, Marguerite has indisputably come out on top, using her voice as the powerfully proven guide that it has become for so many others. What comforting words do you wish your mother had said to you when you were a child star and dealing with the pressures of being a celebrity?

I would like to go back in time and say that I am fine. You're going to do well. You will get to fulfill the dreams you have, and you will also get to be yourself.
