During Thursday night's 27-11 preseason loss to the Chicago Bears, starting left guard Damien Lewis was carted off the field after he injured his ankle.

Pete said that the X-rays came back negative.

He was positive about that. We were surprised by the results, but we're happy with them.

He doesn't know if Lewis will be able to play in the opener.

Lewis was hurt in the second quarter when Blackson accidentally rolled up on him from behind. Lewis' right leg was placed in an air cast and he was ruled out for the rest of the game.

A third-round pick out of LSU in 2020, Lewis was a returning starter on an offensive line that added left tackle Charles Cross in the draft with the ninth overall pick. Abe Lucas was drafted by Seattle in the 3rd round. Lewis drew a strong review from the man. He was getting ready for his third season as a starter and his second at left guard.

Phil Haynes took over from Lewis. Haynes gave them three starting- caliber guards because he was having a strong enough summer to push Jackson on the right side.

Geno Smith, who has been ahead of Drew Lock in the battle to replace Russell Wilson, suffered a knee bruise in the first quarter and could have played into the third quarter. Smith was wearing an ice wrap on his knee.

Smith played the entire first half and finished with 112 yards.

Smith's six full drives ended with five punts and a missed field goal. Three of Smith's incompletions were dropped.

He did well, according toCarroll. It was necessary for us to come through. We needed to lend a hand. We missed the block on the screen, we missed the third-down conversion, and there was another one. He's doing a good job. He is doing well. When he needed to, he got out of the pocket and threw some balls that could have been converted. We need to get through for him. The receiver has to make plays for him.

Lock was supposed to start on Thursday night, but he tested positive for carbon dioxide on Tuesday after feeling unwell during practice. As of Thursday morning, Lock was still sick and no decision has been made on a starter for Seattle's preseason finale at Dallas.

He wasn't given a chance to play tonight. We had a different plan for this night and it wasn't executed. I couldn't do anything about it. I want to know how he plays with us. I'm sure I am. Enough good things have been done by him. When he does get his chance, you will see some exciting abilities and playmaking that he has to offer. We did not get to see more of it.
