According to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Miami Heat are not in a rush to sign Tyler Herro to a contract extension.
If the Heat wait on an extension, Tyler Herro could still be traded at the February NBA trading deadline. Tyler is a restricted free agent. This summer saw the Suns and Deandre Ayton. It looks like it will be a decision that will be close to the deadline. From the Heat's perspective, there is no need to be concerned at the moment.
The Heat can either give Herro a five-year deal worth up to $188 million or give him a four-year contract worth less than the maximum extension.
Miami seems to be hesitant to extend Herro's contract at the moment. He is seen by the franchise as a valuable trade asset that it could use to find a new star.
While speaking with reporters earlier this week during an appearance for his foundation in Miami, the 22-year-old didn't seem to be bothered by the trade rumors he's been a part of.

There is optimism among NBA executives that Herro and Miami will agree to an extension ahead of the 2022-23 season.
One assistant general manager said that their guys always seem to be paid.
Herro has been a staple in the Miami lineup since he was drafted out of Kentucky in 2019. In 66 games, the Sixth Man of the Year averaged 20.7 points, 6.0 rebound and 4.0 assists while shooting 44.7% from the floor and 39.9% from deep.
The opening game of the 2022-23 season is against the Bulls. The franchise has until the end of October to keep him.
