Every officer resigns from police force in Florida town. It’s happened elsewhere, too

The police force in a small town in Florida is going dark after every officer quits.

According to a news release from the town, most of the police officers resigned in August. There was no explanation for the resignations.

The town's residents and businesses will continue to receive comprehensive law enforcement and police protection services at all times according to the release.

The town said in a release that the sheriff's office will provide police protection services within the town's municipal boundaries. BCSO has been covering a lot of shifts for a long time.

It's not the first town to have its police department decimated by resignations.

In July, the majority of the Kenly, North Carolina, Town Police Department resigned over a conflict with the new town manager. The sheriff's office stepped in after most of the officers left.

The town of North Carolina is looking for a new police chief.

The chief of the Springfield Police Department in Colorado, along with every officer, resigned in the same month.

The police department in Missouri crumbled less than a year ago after the chief and his officers quit. The mayor said the short notice was disappointing.

According to the Police Executive Research Forum, the number of police force resignations increased between 2020 and 2021. The police forces hired less people in the previous year.
