A woman who was forced to spend her cruise trip without her luggage after it was lost in transit found it when a stranger in a city she'd never visited found it and sent her a text.
She doesn't have her bag back six weeks later.
On June 30th, Lisa Khan flew with her husband, son, and daughter from Germany to Italy for a two-night stay in the Tuscany region followed by a six-night Royal Caribbean cruise around Italy and Greece.
She said that they missed their connection to Rome because of the delay in their first flight. The flight to Florence was canceled.
The family stood in line for over two hours.
Their bags didn't make it to Rome, but the airline eventually booked them onto an alternative flight.
After landing in Rome, Khan said the family waited for the next flight to arrive in case their bags were on that plane, but eventually gave up when they didn't show up.
After canceling their stay in Tuscany, the family booked a hotel in Rome so they could wait for their luggage. She said that her son's bag was the only one that showed up.
Khan told Insider that her husband spent the first two days of our vacation going back and forth from Rome to the airport.
She said that the rental car they were supposed to use was spent on trying to retrieve luggage.
Khan said that the family were in Rome.
She said that they couldn't enjoy the sites in Rome because everyone was on edge and wondering if they were going to get the bags back or not.
Khan wore shorts and a shirt from the Gap while he was on the cruise.
She said that her cruise line tried to coordinate their bags' arrival at one of the ports, but this was not successful.
"It was not our best trip, because I just felt like this had a cloud hanging over, but we really tried to make the best of it."
The family checked in at Rome but their bags were not there. After they returned to the US, her daughter's bag made its way back to their house, but the other two bags were nowhere to be found. She said that her husband spent hours on the phone with the airline.
After more than five weeks after their flight, Khan got a message from a stranger who said she had stumbled across her bag at the airport in Florence. Khan's bag was also found by the stranger.
I would like to let you know that your bag is located at the airport in Florence, Italy. "I lost five of my bags here and decided to take some pictures of the bag tags that were visible when I visited," the text message reads.
She wasn't sure why their bags were in Florence, as it wasn't part of their itinerary and she hadn't been to the city.
She said that her husband was considering going to Florence to collect their bags. The person from Air Dolomiti told him that the bags would be sent to the Khans.
An Air Dolomiti worker confirmed that your luggage is in Florence in an email. As soon as possible, we are forwarding all the remaining bags to their owners.
On Tuesday, Khan's husband was told that one of the bags had arrived at Washington Dulles International Airport and would be sent to him. Khan does not know what happened to the other bag.
It makes me laugh that this bag went from one place to another. We were never in those cities.
Due to the current staff shortages and because aircraft can't wait indefinitely, baggage may not be loaded in time and arrive late. Passengers are informed of the delay in a timely fashion.
