Josh Harrison was put on the mound by the White Sox to avoid burning out the relief pitchers after they were destroyed by the Astros.

After the game, Tony La Russa said he hates seeing position players pitch.

He told reporters that he didn't like that rule. It has to be a way to avoid that. It is a travesty for the game when you are far down. Fans don't like it. That is our fault.

One way to avoid it would be to not get blown out, but from a rules perspective, preventing position players from taking the mound would likely need to be accompanied by something like a mercy rule. It's likely that teams wouldn't be happy about having to use their pitchers in a single game.

Harrison could be thrown on the mound to finish the game. It isn't pretty, but there's nothing else about a big loss.
