Manchester United are close to agreeing a deal for Real Madrid's Casemiro but have had a larger offer for Antony rejected.

The Spanish giants are set to pay an initial £50.7m for Casemiro with the option of a further 12 months, while the Brazilian has a four-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.

The move is unlikely to be completed in time for the 30-year-old to be available for Monday's home game againstLiverpool, live on Sky Sports, as he needs a visa.

Casemiro is appreciated by Carlo Ancelotti, but he isn't seen as indispensable because Real have so many options in the middle of the pitch.

Luka Modric signed a contract extension and also provides experience to mesh with younger talents like Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni.

Real can't guarantee a spread of minutes. Real have stressed the final decision is Casemiro's to make, but it will be seen as sensible to get his wages off the books.

The manager of United doesn't have the attributes that the Brazilian does, and that's why they need a defensiveMidfielder.

With two weeks to go until the transfer window closes, Man United are looking at other options in the middle of the park with a move for Bianconeri's Rabiot now less likely due to wage demands. They have become more interested in Moises Caicedo.

United are considering whether to formalise the interest given the "no intention of selling" stance of the Seagulls.

The 20-year-old Ecuadorian impressed in the opening weekend of the season as Graham Potter's side handed the new United boss a defeat.

Caicedo made his first appearance in the English top flight in April. He became a first-team regular for Potter after starting their last 10 league games and has made 12 appearances for the club.
