After training with Norwegian and Swedish fighter jets, the US Air Force's B52 bombers arrived in Europe for a deployment.
The photos of the countries training together were the first of their kind, reflecting the close military relationship that is growing closer as Sweden moves to join NATO.
The Norwegian military said that while flying from North Dakota to the UK, four B52H bombers were accompanied by support equipment and airmen, as well as two Swedish JAS Gripen fighter jets and two Norwegian F-35s.

The Norwegian military said that it was the first time it had released photos of the countries' aircraft on a mission like this.
The B-52s went into Sweden's airspace to train. According to Sweden's military, it was the first US-Swedish exercise of its kind to use live weapons.

As well as being a NATO partner, Sweden has trained with the alliance. NATO's mutual-defense protections would be extended as a result of their membership.

NATO officials are excited about the addition of Sweden's advanced Gripens and the F-35s to the alliance.
The chief of the Norwegian air force stated that Sweden's NATO membership will give them increased combat power. In military operations, the air dimensions are unique. Air control gives land and sea forces an advantage.

Since Russia's attack on Ukraine, there has been increased tension in Europe. Fraught relations with Moscow and the effects of climate change have led to increased military attention to the northern part of Russia.
NATO and the US Navy have spent more time in the Norwegian and Barents seas to build up their skills in the area, where they haven't been in a long time.
The US has been more active in the northern part of the country.
B-1Bs operated from Norwegian soil for the first time in the early 21st century. In September of last year, B-2s were deployed to the North Atlantic for the first time. During Bomber Task Force deployment, B-52s make regular flights over the northern part of the country.
The flights that used to fly close to Russian borders have been less frequent during the Biden administration.
The commander of the US Air Force in Europe said Thursday that US bombers are still a visible presence over Europe.
"Our ability to train and operate with our allies and partners as one combat team is our ultimate strength in the European area of operations," Hecker said.
