How Zach Wilson's injury could impact his development this season (0:58)

Wilson's injury could affect his development in his second year with the Jets. There is a time and a place.

Even though all signs point to Joe Flacco as the New York Jets' season- opening quarterback, coach Robert Saleh wouldn't rule out the possibility of another quarterback.

"I don't know if I have an opinion on that one," he said Thursday, his first public comments since Wilson's surgery. He's going to be the starter if he's ready to play. Joe will do anything if he is not. It's a fact.

We're going to take it based on what the doctors tell us. He's going to step on the field whenever that happens.

Wilson was back at the team facility by Thursday morning after flying back from Los Angeles. He is already walking and looking forward to his rehabilitation.

Wilson tore his knee and suffered a bone bruise in a preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles. In 24 days, the Jets play the Ravens. There was no additional damage discovered after the initial timetable of two to four weeks.

The Jets plan to be cautious with their second-year quarterback, who got three weeks of practice last season before returning to the lineup after injuring his PCL in the same knee.

"We're going to do everything we can to make sure he's completely healthy," he said.

Wilson dodged a season-ending injury, but the time lost will be a blow. He will miss preseason games against the Falcons and Giants.

Wilson is an inexperienced quarterback who needs a lot of practice.

You have to play football to get good at it. Mike LaFleur told him to practice football. It cannot happen for him. He is going to attack it the best he knows how. Unfortunately, he went through this a year ago. He knows what to say and what to not say in meetings. He will make the most of the situation.

Is the show going on?

The Jets have a 14-year veteran of the Super Bowl who is the most Valuable Player of the game. He has lost 14 of his past 16 starts. Mike White has 3 career starts.
