When asked by reporters about a return date for quarterback Tom Brady, who has been away from the team since Aug. 11 to tend to what has been described as "personal things," Todd Bowles was notcommittal.
The earliest Brady could return to practicing with the team would be Monday, August 22nd, after the second preseason game at the TennesseeTitans. Thursday, he said that he wasn't sure when Brady would come back, despite Brady's absence being pre- planned weeks ago.
"We'll see what happens," he said. Next week, we'll discuss it. I'm not worried about it at the moment. We are playing a game against Tennessee. After Tennessee, I said'some time after that.' I don't know a definitive date for me. We will keep in touch and we will find out.
Brady has been given off days in the past, but this is the first time he's taken a significant amount of time away from the team. While he was with the New England Pats, he missed out on the optional practices that take place in the spring because he was spending more time with his family.
It is unusual for an NFL team to give flexibility to approve all of Brady's absences.
While Brady has been away from the team, Bowles said he was confident that Brady would be the starter when the team plays the Dallas Cowboys in the season opener. Brady would be the oldest quarterback in the history of the league to start a game if he played that week.
