Dodge is the first American car company to go electric.
Since electric motors are very quiet and don't generate the kind of obnoxious noise associated with the brand's gas-guzzling, V8-powered monstrosities, it's exploring.
In addition to generating enough noise to warn pedestrians of its presence, the car will also mimic the sound of exhaust by forcing air through pipes with chambers inside. CNN points out that a roaring 126 decibels of pointless noise is more than enough to cause ear pain and deafness.
In other words, it's flipping the electric car on its head to make sure everyone around it is safe from noise pollution and hearing issues.
The Daytona will feature exhaust pipes that make a lot of noise, as well as a transmission that changes gears. Not for efficiency, but to appease those who remember the good ol' days.
According to CNN, the company is promising that its EV will meet its legendary Challenger Hellcat muscle car. It will be loud but also fast.
Chances are you'll hear the car before you see it.
The majority of electric cars are not loud. Dodge's electric muscle car will be loud.
A new app lets you rent a whole electric car for $500 per month.
