The U.S. will provide 50,000 vaccine doses specifically for large events with high attendance by gay and bisexual men in order to better reach the community most at risk.

Dr. Rochelle Walensky is the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC wants jurisdictions that order more vaccine to provide a plan for how they will educate attendees about the risk factors associated with monkeypox.

According to the CDC director, there are tips on safer sex included in the education outreach. Right now, monkeypox is most likely spreading through sex.

She said that it was important to avoid behaviors that increase the risk of infections between the first and second dose of the vaccine.

The Jynneos vaccine is being used in the U.S. to protect against monkeypox. Two doses of the vaccine are given in a 28 day period. The maximum immune response is produced after two weeks after the second dose.

According to the Health and Human Services Department, the US has delivered more than one million doses of the vaccine. State and local governments will be able to order more than one million doses on Monday.

State and local governments will be able to order 50,000 courses of tecovirimat next week, thanks to the U.S. delivering 22,000 courses so far.

According to the CDC, more than 13,500 cases of monkeypox have been reported in the U.S. 98% of infections are in men and most of the patients have sex with men. The average age of patients is 35.

Black and Hispanic people are disproportionately affected by the outbreak. According to CDC data, 34% of monkeypox patients are white, 32% are Hispanic and 22% are black. Whites make up more than half of the U.S. population while Blacks and Hispanics make up less than one percent. Demetre Daskalakis said that public health officials are tailoring outreach for upcoming events attended by black and Hispanic people.

Ahead of Atlanta Black Pride and Southern Decadence the CDC is working with local officials.

We want to know how the education will happen, how we can do more outreach, and how we can make vaccine available.

The Jynneos vaccine can be administered between the layers of the skin by the FDA. The vaccine was approved for use under the skin.

This method of administration uses a fifth of the normal dose volume, so the decision to allow it has increased the vaccine supply. Robert Fenton, the White House monkeypox response coordinators, said that five doses can now be taken from each vaccine.

Some concerns have been expressed by the manufacturer of the product. The CEO of Bavarian Nordic wrote a letter to the FDA and HHS saying that they were concerned about the data on the method. The Washington Post was the first to report on the letter.

In a study sponsored by the U.S. government, Califf and Dr. Peter Marks, head of the FDA's vaccine division, said that a similar immune response to the injected vaccine was seen. The FDA told Bavarian Nordic in a letter that the side effects were manageable and people had less pain from the shot.

There isn't much data on the vaccine's effectiveness in the real world. The World Health Organization said earlier this week that there are reports of breakthrough cases in which people who received the vaccine after being exposed to the virus are still sick.

The vaccine wouldn't be a silver bullet, it wouldn't meet all the expectations that are being put on it, and we don't have effective data to back it up.

The vaccine can be given before or after exposure to reduce the risk of serious disease.

Walensky said last week that the CDC is starting studies to see if the shots work in the real world. Two weeks after the second dose, the vaccine will be most effective, according to the CDC.
