  • The GOP is the most dangerous political force according to the ex-CIA director.

  • The threats US democracy is facing have become more alarmist by the day.

  • He wrote in an op-ed that the democratic institutions are more vulnerable than ever.

There's no political force more dangerous than the Republican party, according to the former CIA director.

"I've covered extremists and violent ideologies around the world over my career, and I'm not happy about it," said the former director of the National Security Agency. The Republicans are more dangerous, contemptible, and nihilistic than any political force I have ever seen. There's nothing close.

The retired Air Force general who was director of the National Security Agency from 1999 to 2005 and the CIA from 2006 to 2009, endorsed President Joe Biden in 2020 and warned that reelecting President Donald Trump would be very bad for America. As prominent Republicans echo Trump's false claims about the 2020 election, he has sounded the alarm about the danger of democracy.

The ex-CIA chief expressed "unprecedented concern for our country and for our democracy" in an op-ed penned with other former top national security and military officials.

The democratic institutions are more vulnerable than ever. If you asked us when we were most likely to lose sleep, we would all say last night. Tonight as well. Tomorrow night. The op-ed said that democracy is never guaranteed. There comes a time when our efforts to protect democracies abroad are overshadowed by the erosion of democracy here at home. After a raid on Trump's Florida home earlier this month, prominent figures on the far right have used violent rhetoric. The 21st century's version of civil war is what experts warn the US about.

According to a Boston University historian and expert on the US Civil War, there is a real threat of civil conflict because of the increasing number of people who are armed.

In recent years, law enforcement and national security agencies in the US have repeatedly warned of the growing domestic terror threat posed by far-right groups.

The New America think tank says that far-right terrorism has killed 122 people in the US. Over 100 people have been killed in the US by Jihadists during the same period.

The Proud Boys and Oath Keepers are far-right groups.
