A new crew is going to be sent into space. There will be a Native American woman on the plane.

Nicole Aunapu Mann will be the mission commander and will be responsible for all phases of flight.

The International Space Station will be visited by her on September 29th.

She told the newspaper that it was exciting.

Some of the barriers that used to be there are starting to get broken down, so it's important that we communicate this to our community.

Ms Mann said that she would take a dreamcatcher that her mother gave her when she was young.

Dreamcatchers provide protection and symbolise unity.

Ms Mann is going to be on the Crew-5 mission with three other people.

She could travel to the moon. She was selected to be in a pool of astronauts that will be sent to the moon.

She studied mechanical engineering at the university.

She became a colonel in the Marines. She was awarded six medals for her service to the US military after she was deployed twice on aircraft carriers.
