The first flights out of OSL and London were operated by Norse Atlantic. In June of this year, the airline announced plans to launch flights out of Berlin, as well as two more this week.

Norse Atlantic will fly from Berlin to New York, Los Angeles, and Fort Lauderdale

Berlin has become its third European gateway city.

  • As of August 17, 2022, Norse Atlantic is flying daily between Berlin (BER) and New York (JFK)
  • As of August 19, 2022, Norse Atlantic will fly 3x weekly between Berlin (BER) and Los Angeles (LAX)
  • As of December 7, 2022, Norse Atlantic will fly 3x weekly between Berlin (BER) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL)

The Berlin to New York flight is running on schedule.

The Berlin to New York flight leaves at 7:21PM and arrives at 10:00PM.

The New York to Berlin flight is leaving at 12:30AM.

Each of the three weekly services will have a different schedule for the Berlin to LA flight. The Los Angeles to Berlin flight leaves at either 8:50AM, 1:20PM, or 5:50PM, while the Berlin to Los Angeles flight leaves at either 10:40AM, 3:10PM, or 7:50PM.

The flight from Berlin to Fort Lauderdale is 4,967 miles long.

The Berlin to Fort Lauderdale flight arrives at 9:00PM.

The Fort Lauderdale to Berlin flight leaves at 11:00PM.

Premium economy and economy will be available on these flights. It is expected that base fares are low, but you will have to pay for everything.

All three markets are currently on sale. It is possible that they will be extended into next summer. Airlines only add inventory for a single season at a time.

Norse Atlantic has added three Berlin routes

Berlin finally gets more transatlantic service!

Despite being Germany's most populous city, there has been no consistent service to the airport from the US. Until this week, there was only one trans-Atlantic link out of the airport: United's Berlin to Newark flight. While the route is scheduled to be year-round for the time being, let's see if that lasts, since historically United has only operated the route seasonal.

Berlin has not been able to maintain consistent links with the US. There are a lot of factors that contributed to this.

  • The new Berlin Brandenburg Airport finally opened in late 2020, nearly a decade behind schedule; the old airport wasn’t really equipped for major expansion
  • Unfortunately airberlin liquidated in late 2017, and that’s the airline that operated some long haul routes out of Berlin
  • While Berlin is the biggest city in Germany, Frankfurt and Munich are the business hubs, and also the hubs that Lufthansa has been focused on
  • That means Berlin is largely left with leisure demand (which isn’t going to consistently be lucrative, especially for full service airlines) and government traffic (which is likely to fly with Lufthansa)

Things are looking good for Berlin at the moment.

  • Delta is launching a New York to Berlin route as of May 2023; the route will be operated daily during the summer season with a Boeing 787
  • United is launching a Washington to Berlin route; the route will be operated daily during the summer season with a Boeing 767

Berlin is a great place to live. Hopefully, this service can continue.

Norse Atlantic is now flying to Berlin Brandenburg

Bottom line

New York, Los Angeles, and Fort Lauderdale are some of the destinations that will be served by the new flights from Berlin. The routes are on sale for the time being, so hopefully they will be extended into next summer.

It is great to see an ultra low cost carrier opening up new markets and replicating the route networks of other airlines. As of next summer, Delta and United will be launching new routes to Berlin, aslegacy carriers put more of a focus on the city.

What do you think about the new Berlin routes?
