Over $16,000 of luggage went missing from passengers, and an airline subcontractor has been charged with theft.

According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, Giovanni De Luca was arrested on August 10 in connection with the theft of items from luggage at the airport. Two counts of grand theft have been filed against him.

The sheriff's office said that a traveler reported that her luggage, which she said was worth more than $1,600, never arrived at her destination.

According to the sheriff's office, another traveler said that his luggage had been taken with more than $15,000 worth of items.

According to the sheriff's office, the first alleged victim said that her bag was last seen in a street in Okaloosa County around 11 miles from the airport.

The sheriff's office found out which airport employees lived near the Airtag. The items reported missing on August 9 were found at De Luca.

The belongings that went missing in July have not been recovered, but De Luca admitted to rummaging through the suitcase and taking an Apple Airtag.

Allegiant, American, Delta, Southwest, and United are some of the airlines that have flights at the airport.
