The NBA's schedule for the 2022-23 season begins with two long-standing rivalries involving the two teams that reached last season's NBA finals.

The Philadelphia 76ers will travel to face the Boston Celtics in the first game of the 2022-23 NBA regular season.

On Wednesday, the first day of the season, the New York Knicks will travel to Memphis to play the Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzles. The site of last year's Western Conference semifinal between the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns will be played again, this time in Phoenix.

The Detroit Pistons will host the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, guard Cade Cunningham, while Rudy Gobert will play for the Minnesota Vikings.

The Nets will open in Brooklyn against the New Orleans Pelicans, who are expected to have Zion Williamson on the court after he missed all of last year.

The Milwaukee Bucks will play the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday, followed by a Clippers and Lakers game on Friday.

The Wolves will be in Oklahoma City on Sunday.

All five games on Christmas Day - 76ers-Knicks, Lakers-Mavericks, Bucks-Celtics, Warriors and Suns-Nuggets - will once again be shown by ABC.

The Celtics will travel to San Francisco to take on the Warriors in a second NBA Finals game. 14; Nuggets 76ers, Knicks-Nets and Lakers-Celtics on Jan.

On February 12 and February 26 there will be marquee games, as well as on March 5 there will be Warriors and Lakers.

The NBA will have all 30 teams play the night before Election Day in order to encourage fans to vote. Thanksgiving Eve and Martin Luther King Day will be back on the schedule.

The Clippers will travel to Golden State to take on the Warriors while the Mavericks will play the Celtics in Boston. The Miami Heat will play the Atlanta Hawks, followed by the Phoenix Suns playing the Memphis Grizzles on Martin Luther King Day.

The All-Star Game will be held in Salt Lake City and there will be a robust schedule coming in and out of the break. In the days leading up to the break, Boston will travel to Milwaukee, Golden State will travel to LA, and the Heat will play the Nets in Brooklyn.

The Warriors will play the Lakers in Los Angeles at 10 p.m. on February 23rd, followed by a game between Morant's Memphis and Willamson's New Orleans.

There will be many "reunion" games throughout the season, with players going back to face their former teams. The 76ers and Nets will be involved. After sitting out last season's return to Philadelphia due to his trade to Brooklyn, Ben Simmons is scheduled to play his first game there on Tuesday, November 22nd. James Harden will come back to Brooklyn on February 11.

Gobert will return to Utah for a game against the Jazz, while Dejounte Murray will return to San Antonio for the first time since his trade to the Hawks.

There is still no resolution to the Mitchell situation. The Knicks will play the Utah Jazz in Utah in November and the Jazz will come to New York in February.

The first few weeks of the season will be when the top three picks will see each other.

The Magic will play the Thunder in Oklahoma City on November 1st, while the Magic will play the Rockets on November 7th.

The NBA has made efforts to reduce wear and tear on its players over the past several years. The league is increasing the number of games with no travel between road games from 53 to 88 this season, 55 of which came from playing the same team in the same city twice in a row, and 33 of which came from playing two straight games in either New York or Los Angeles. The number of back-to-backs has dropped from last year's 13 to this year's 13 The number of back-to-backs per team has gone down in the last two years.

The NBA created "NBA Rivals Week" in January, with 11 nationally televised games featuring various rivalries across the league, including battles for New York and Los Angeles.
