Martin, who has spent years telling fans when he thinks he'll be done with the next book in the A Song of Ice and Fire saga, recently spoke to Vanity Fair about his writing process during the Pandemic and his diagnosis with covid-19. I have given up on trying to predict the end. Everybody gets mad at me when I don't make it and there's no sense. When it's done, it'll be done.

It became less of a genuine frustration and more of a joke when Mr. Martin did it many times. It is understandable that the author is frustrated that some of the speculation of A Song of Ice and Fire's future conclusion has come alongside morbid speculation about his health. We won't have that issue if covid doesn't kill me. People speculate online about what will happen to the rest of the books when Martin dies. I don't want to speculate about that. I don't feel like I'm near death.

It would be great if Martin finished his books at this point. If this is the last time we hear about The Winds of Winter, it will be done when it is done.
