If you are a fan of low-budget horror movies, you are familiar with Birdemic. The original Birdemic: Shock and Terror caused a sensation and spawned a cult franchise that is getting a new entry this year.
Ahead of the world premiere of Birdemic 3 at Fantastic Fest, io9 is releasing the trailer today. The fact that the film earned a slot at the prestigious genre festival is noteworthy, but if you watch the trailer you will see that the audience is going to have a great time. It's true!
What about the acting? It was outrageously even. There are special effects. It's hilariously lo-fi. Are the environmental messages? It is a trademark of the series and we love how it is conveyed here. The less said about Birdemic 2: The Resurrection, the better, is that Severn Films was not involved in the film. Too many people were hovering over that pot. They were able to recreate the magic of the first thanks to 100% creative control and a director's cut. Three years later, without ever seeing a draft of the script, Nguyen returned with a bottle full of romantic and thrilling lightning.
Without seeing a draft of the script, the production company rolled the dice and got gems like "We have to do something about this damn global warming," and that's just from what we can see in the trailer. With an outfit like Severin Films behind it, you know your eyeballs will get a chance eventually.
