  • The New York Times book critic didn't hold back in his review.

  • The book is an earnest and soulless, with the author writing like a mannequin, and an appraisal of Trump's term in office.

  • He said that he remembered watching a cat lick a dog's eye.

This week, the New York Times book critic painted a less than flattering picture of former White House senior advisor to the president.

The book is scheduled to be released on August 23. Insider doesn't have a copy.

Here is some of what the man had to say.

  • "'Breaking History' is an earnest and soulless piece of work, written by a man who looks like a mannequin and who writes like one.

  • "This book is like a tour of a once majestic 18th-century wooden house, now burned to its foundations, that focuses solely on, andRejoices in, what's left amid the ashes: the two singed bathtubs, the gravel driveway and the mailbox"

  • The book reminded me of a cat licking a dog's eye.

During the Trump presidency, he was his father-in-law's point person for a number of policies. In addition to being a shadow diplomat, he was in charge of securing peace in the Middle East and other issues. After being denied a top- secret security clearance, he lost access to the President's Daily Brief.

In his review, he said that Kushner "repeatedly beats his own drum" and "recalls every drop of praise he's ever received."

He quoted some lines from the book in which people heaped praise on the former first son-in-law.

  • I'm not sure how you do this on so many topics. That was very difficult. You have done a lot for the community.

  • He is a genius. I'm the one who got the steal and people don't like that.

  • I've been in Washington for a long time and I can say thatJared is one of the best lobbyists I've ever seen.

He told his wife that he was ready to leave the White House.

"It's been a wild five years, but in thirty days, we'll have a lot less responsibility and we will get our lives back," according to an excerpt of his memoir that Insider obtained.

Since leaving the White House, they have largely stayed out of the public eye. The couple is 1.5 hours away from Trump's Mar-a-Lago club in south Florida.

During a series of public hearings in June and July, parts of their interviews with the House select committee were played.

The person who answered the request for comment did not reply.
