There is a clear picture of what to expect from Apple's Mac Pro configurations later this year thanks to reports and the launch of the Mac Studio.

One of the last Intel-based Mac models still on sale is the Mac Pro. It has been anticipated for over two years that an all-new model of Apple's top tier Mac for professionals would be released. "That's for another day," Apple said at its "Peek Performance" event earlier this year.

It was difficult to know what the future of the high-end Mac Pro line would be because of reports about a smaller Mac Pro model placed between the Mac mini and the Mac Pro.

There are multiple reports from Mark Gurman about the chip options and specifications of the Apple Mac Pro. Users will be able to set the new Mac Pro with M2 Ultra and M2 Extreme chip options according to Gurman. The device's configuration is likely to look similar.

There is a mac pro with m2 ultra

  • 20-core CPU (16 high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores)
  • Up to a 64-core GPU
  • 32-core Neural Engine
  • 64GB or 128GB of unified memory

Mac pro with M2 Extreme.

  • 40-core CPU (32 high-performance cores and eight high-efficiency cores)
  • Up to a 128-core GPU
  • 64-core Neural Engine
  • At least 128GB or 256GB of unified memory

The M1 Ultra is Apple's most powerful custom chip, with a 20-core processor and up to a 64-core graphics card. Sitting above the Ultra in the chip lineup, the M2 Extreme would likely surpass these specifications to become the top-tier Apple chip.

Rumor has it that the M2 Extreme would be better than the current Intel-based Mac Pro with 28-cores.

Compared to the M1 chip, the M2 chip is 18 percent faster, 35 percent more powerful, 40 percent faster, and 50 percent more powerful. The M1 Ultra and M2 Ultra seem to have the same performance difference.

The current Mac Pro is available with up to 1.5TB of memory, a $25,000 configuration option available to $11,999 and $12,999 Mac Pro models with 24 and 28-core processors. It is likely that it will be available with considerably less memory since Apple Silicon Macs use a pool of unified memory.

The M1 family of chips follows a clear system for increasing unified memory options, with the M1 offering 8 gigabytes or 16 gigabytes, the M1 Pro offering 16 gigabytes or 32 gigabytes, the M1 Max offering 32 gigabytes or 64 gigabytes, and the M1 Ultra offering 128 gigabytes or It's possible that a new "Extreme" chip above the Ultra will have 128 and 256 gigabyte unified memory options. It is possible that Apple could offer even larger amounts of unified memory with the new Mac Pro due to the fact that the M2 chip has a 24 gigabyte memory option.

The Mac Pro starts at $5,999 and could go up to over $52,000 in custom configuration. The base model Apple Mac Pro with the M2 Ultra is almost certain to cost more than the high-end Mac Studio with the M1 Ultra. It is likely that the new base model of Mac Pro will be the same price point as the current model, but there is no further information at this time.

The device's design, ports, and modularity are unknown. The Apple Mac Pro is expected to be introduced later this year, followed by a "pro" version of the studio display with a mini-LED panel and support for ProMotion in early 2023. We have a detailed guide for the new Mac Pro.
